It is optimized for use with radios, radio communication consoles, and other JPS products such as the ACU product line. The Network Extension Unit features a variety of codecs, allowing audio links to be configured for the optimal combination of bandwidth and signal quality. Provides a low cost, flexible method for extending radio communications over existing network infrastructure; eliminating the need for leased lines and microwave sites.
A pair of NXU-2As can form a simple system that creates a transparent communications link between the two. One of a pair of units is set up as the server, the other as the client. The audio, RS-232, and status bits appear to be simply extended between the server and the client.
The NXU-2A Network Extension Unit ability to delay TX and RX audio is ideal for trunking applications where extra delay may be required. The NXU-2A’s added ability to support multicast Internet protocol (IP) is optimal for customers who use multiple NXUs. Multicast IP reduces the amount of network traffic, which ensures that each unit in the multicast group will receive communication.
The NXU-2A’s additional hardware offerings include VMR and a “restore to factory defaults” setting. VMR, as with carrier operated relay (COR) and voice operated transmit (VOX) capabilities, determines when a radio’s squelch function is active. The ability to reset the NXU-2A to a well-defined factory default state overcomes the problem of unknown or forgotten IP addresses.
